The Collaborative Food Project Mission

The Collaborative Food Project was started with several ideas about food quality and food access in mind. The Collaborative Food Project’s mission is based on the following ten beliefs that we try to promote through our work and through the projects and information we feature. Quality, accessibility, and community-building are embedded into our work in addition to respect for localism.

  1. We believe in access to locally produced food that time, care, and love has created.
  2. We believe when possible that food should be organic.
  3. We believe in the singularity of place, and that individual communities have the right to their own form of food sovereignty based on their unique situatedness.
  4. We believe that the everyday social relationships that form around food production and food consumption are valuable and should be promoted as such.
  5. We believe that everyone should have the power to participate in growing their own food, cooking their own food, and sharing food with others if they want to.
  6. We believe that finding a way to actively participate in a food project should be easy.
  7. We believe in using creativity to make experiences with food extraordinary and inspirational.
  8. We believe that loneliness, hunger, and depression can be cured by changing the way we relate to our environments, our neighbors, and our food.
  9. We believe that communities have the desire and the ability to formulate new food pathways, changing what they do not like.
  10. We believe that education and knowledge about how to create new relationships with food should be accessible to everyone.
